CFOAS

Welcome to the website of The Chief Fire Officers Association Scotland (CFOAS). The Association is the professional voice of the fire and rescue service in Scotland with around 45 members’ at the most senior level. These strategic leaders effectively manage the collective business of the eight fire and rescue services through the various portfolios and business streams.

Scotland’s fire and rescue services operate through CFOAS structures across all areas of activity, sharing best practice, innovation, policies and procedures. The CFOAS Policy Forum feeds policy decisions into the four national meetings we hold each year so that there is full membership involvement in developing and agreeing our strategic direction.
CFOAS provides the business organisation and structure that drives continuous improvement and collaborative working in the fire and rescue services in Scotland.
The Association provides professional advice to Scottish local government and is represented on the National Community Planning Group and the Ministerial Advisory Group. CFOAS chairs the Scottish Practitioners Forum and has two members on the CFOA UK Members Sounding Board. Our members provide professional advice to every fire and rescue authority and the Scottish Fire Conveners Forum.
‘Fire’ is largely a devolved matter and CFOAs is in regular dialogue with Scottish Government civil servants and other parts of government, including the Scottish Fire Services College, jointly developing policy for fire and rescue services.
As part of the wider local government family, CFOAS members meet on a regular basis with senior colleagues in the police (ACPOS) and the 32 councils (SOLACE). Our influence on and contribution to the wider well being of Scotland continues to be a key focus for the Association.
